"Focusing is about saying NO" - Steve Jobs
Being busy doesn't mean you are being productive. Sometimes in order to do more, we must do less. The Pareto Principle specifies that 80% of results come from 20% of the activities. So sometimes the best way to get more done is simply saying NO and reducing the amount of tasks you do each day.
During this episode, Luigi talks about the Power of Focus and why being focused on less, actually helps you deliver more.
So next time you find yourself 'busy', stop and ask yourself, 'Am I being busy or am I being productive?'.

Welcome to Mindset Monday by the Sales IQ podcast. I'm your host, Luigi Prestinenzi and I'm here to help you be the best you can be. Everyone has a potential to be the best version of themselves. They can be sometimes things prevent us from capitalizing on that awesomeness that is sitting dormant inside of you. This podcast is about helping you unlock your potential by focusing on one thing that can help you be the very best you can be.
Focusing is about saying no, that's a quote by the famous Steve jobs. And why is that quote so relevant for me today? Because I think sometimes we get so busy, we get so focused on being busy and being active and doing heaps of things at once. But that doesn't necessarily mean we're being productive or we moving the needle in the direction.
That we're trying to work towards. And why does this quote resonate for me so much? Because I want to share a bit about what I've been experiencing or try to get a lot of stuff done during the week. I try to smash out heaps of tasks, but sometimes I've been feeling like, geez, I'm really running a really pushing hard.
Am I actually achieving the tasks that are critical in me achieving the goal or getting closer to the goal that I'm trying to achieve. I think the answer to some, to that question in some aspects of what I'm doing is no, I found myself becoming busy versus becoming productive. And this is my message this way.
It's the power of focus. However, it's actually knowing when to say no to certain things and limiting the amount of tasks that you've got to do and narrowing that focus on less activities on less tasks that are going to give you a greater level of performance outcome. There there is the Pareto principle.
We've all heard it before the 80 20 law spending 80% of your time on 20% of. But I think with the amount of communication mediums that we're engaging with, the amount of tech stacks that we're being asked to use every single day, it's only when we're being asked to use it's that we're being forced to use.
The world is driven by technology and the change is happening fast. However, we've got to be mindful and we've got to be discipline. That we don't become busy. We don't become, you know, put the hamster on that hamster wheel and we're just, we're just racing away, but we're not getting the things that we want and we know that it's important for us to get done.
So my message is wake is really clear. It's developed a discipline, developed the, the will to know when to say no and push tasks off that you feel aren't going to deliver you the outcome that you want to achieve. And I think. You know, I've learned in my career and that I've learned by talking to high-performance being a high-performing sales professional, my whole career.
And one of the things I've had to remind myself, High performing sales professionals are selfish with their time. They are really selfish with where they spend their time and are fallen into that trap. Is that I've been a bit loose with where I'm spending my time and forgetting that time is the most precious and the most priceless thing that we have because once we use it, it's gone, we can never get it back.
And that is a key learning for me. I really had it smacked me in the face when I've looked at my task, going, hang on, I've got heaps of shit done, but ease that stuff relevant to what I'm trying to achieve. So that's the question I want to, I want you to ask yourself today, is, are you busy or are you predict.
Are you being proactive with where you spend your time or are you just getting a whole range of tasks done because it makes you feel good. And that is my message. Again, for this week, it's been clear where we spend our time. It's about focusing on the big rocks, focusing on the PI performance activity.
That are going to deliver the biggest bang for your buck. And just remember if it's a task that you need to do it diarize it. If it's a task that needs to be done, but there's somebody else that's better suited to facilitate that task, delegate it. And if it's a task that doesn't add any value whatsoever, completely dump it.
Because again, your time is valuable and where you spend that time. Because once we use that time, we will never get it back. So the message is clear. The pair of focus is about having the discipline and the ability to say no. So if this is a message that's resonated for you or someone, you know, needs to hear this, please like rate it.
